Motorcycle Tools

This handheld tool is still in process. My intention for this project is to play with the aesthetic quality/allure of engine vibration, tuned exhaust and 'masculine' body language. Designed to vibrate and shimmy (by means of an unbalanced fly wheel mounted to the engine shaft), this handheld tool with it's out stretched handles (quasi 'ape hanger' style) is a body shaking device. Revving the engine intensifys the vibration (similar to revving a motorcycle or car engine). You may have heard about or experienced Harley Davidson's Reputation with engine vibration. There is something amazing about shaking enameled surfaces like gas tanks and rockin' chrome accessories that shimmer in the sun light! Or better yet the combustion rumble that transfers from the petrol engine into the ground below. My curiosity with this project stems from looking at various types of machines that are specifically designed/customized to influence and or 'showcase' a gendered body language. In addition, I am looking at how machines (custom or off the shelf) are used as an accessory to the body and a means of communicating/emphasizing a sense of 'connectedness' and cultural belonging.
